BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Te Kuiti Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr. Carroll, presiding over the full Council, Crs. A. Dobson, G. B. Johnson, W. Rundle, F. Sparks, EM. Mackersey, T. M. Hetet, W. W. Low, C. W. Isaac, H. Douglas, the Town Clerk, Mr. Strange, and the engineer, Mr. Drake. A letter from the Municipal Association asked for remits for the forthcoming conference. Crs. Low, Mackersey and the Town Clerk were appointed to frame a suitable remit to forward on the question of the collection of rates on Crown and native lands. The matter of framing a resolution to increase the license fees chargeable to itinerant traders was left in the hands of Cr. Dobson and the I Clerk. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote advising he could not agree to make a grant from art union funds towards the swimming baths. The Prime Minister's reply that the matter of giving relief regarding native rating was being under consideration was received. Permission was granted for the holding of a carnival on New Year's Eve. Pictures on Christmas • Night. A letter from the State Theatre management asked for permission to screen on Christmas night. A motion was proposed by Cr. Hetet and seconded by Cr. Johnson that the Council adhere to their previous decision and that the request be not granted. An amendment moved by Cr. Mackersey and seconded by Cr. Isaac, however, was carried granting the permission providing that the picture be approved by a sub-committee of the Council. Crs. Isaac, Mackersey and Rundle were appointed to this sub-committee. Purchase of Motor Mower. Considerable discussion on the question of the purchase of a motor mower for the Domain ensued, the Cricket Association having made recommendations that a more suitable mower be purchased to keep the Domain in order. On Cr. Mackersey's motion, seconded by Cr. Hetet, it was decided that the Council should agree to purchase a suitable mower provided the Cricket Association undertook to pay £lO towards its cost, and to pay 7s 6d a week for the use of the ground. Cr. Isaac asked that his objection on the grounds that there was more urgent work in the Borough requiring attention be noted. Negotiations With Aero Club. The Legal and Finance Committee's report'showed that a letter had been received from the Aero Club offering to sell the aerodrome to the Borough for the sum of £llOO, provided the Council agreed to effect improvements to the hangar and ground to the extent of £3OO, and that the Aero Club be given the exclusive use of the ground for a period of 10 years. The Finance Committee recommended that the Aero Club be written to in order to ascertain if the Council agreed to purchase on these terms, would the Aero Club undertake to pay as rent an amount equal to interest, sinking fund and rates, approximately £l2O per annum. The recommendation was adopted by the Council.
