It is estimated that dairy companies in North Taranaki whose offices are at New Plymouth have paid this month to farmers a sum totalling over £40,000. That is in payment for September butterfat, and in some instances includes further payment on last season’s supply. Owing to the higher prices ruling for butterfat the payment is probably the largest that has been made at this season of the year for a long time, despite the fact that owing to climatic conditions the output is lower. Some companies have advanced this month at the rate of lOd and lid a lb butterfat, compared with about 8d at the corresponding period last year. Prospects for this season up to Christmas at least look very bright.
