TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
GOOD PROGRESS MADE. The sitting of the No. 5 District Transport Licensing Authority continued its sitting at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, all the cases set down for hearing being dealt with except that of F. Bredenbeck, who could not attend the sitting. The personnel of the Authority is Mr. P. Thomson (chairman), Mr. J. C. Rolleston, and Major R. A. Wilson. During the hearing the Court is practically always crowded, carriers filling the place for the public, while the solicitors and railway representatives tax the capacity of the tables to their utmost. Decisions were held over in only three cases, besides the tourist service case, yesterday—that of Pender Swann, of Kopaki, for a new goods service; J. Allison, of Mokauiti, for renewal of his license with an amended area; and L. G. Laurenson, of Te Mapara, for renewal of his license with an amended area. The following were yesterday granted renewals of their licenses, on the same terms as last year: C. J. Savage, Mokauiti; G. D. Paxton, Kopaki; L. L. Parks, Waimiha; R, G. R. Higgie Aria,; H. A. Williams, Mokauiti; C. G. Lomas, Te Kuiti; G. Rigginson, Te Kuiti; J. A. G. Higgins, Te Kuiti; while A. E. White, of Mairoa, was granted the additional right to run from Pio Pio to Te Kuiti by the Main Highway and the Marakopa Road. TO-DAY'S SITTING. Henderson, of Te Kuiti, was granted a renewal of his license on the same terms as last year, but the extension of area to include Waitepipi Estate, in the Mairoa Riding, and Waikawau, up the coast from Awakino, was held over until the sitting at New Plymouth. Stock for Waitara. When F. Bredenbeck's case was under discussion, the applicant stated that he had only taken one load of stock through to Waitara —he had been kept busy with timber for builders and other general work. Mr. Grant (Railway Department): "Then you don't want your license to ,Waitara?" Bredenbeck said 'he might want to run there for some of his customers. Mr. Grant asked how often Bredenbeck ran up to Auckland. The applicant replied he sometimes did a little buying and selling on his own account. He maintained that he only went to Auckland occasionally, and when he did he always obtained the necessary authority. The application was granted on the same conditions as last year, save that a decision on the applicant's right to run with stock to Waitara would be held over until after the sitting at New Plymouth.
