LAND FOR SETTLEMENT
FINANCE COMPANY'S SCHEME. AN EXPENDITURE OF £IO,OOO. A programme for the improvement, subdivision and settlement of the Strathmore Estate, involving an expenditure of .£IO,OOO, was mapped out by a committee of the Finance Corporation of New Zealand, Ltd., comprising Messrs. P. H. Saxton (chairman of directors), F. E. Hughes, F. Hayward and M. M. Shaw (general manager). The estate, which comprises about 10,000 acres, was purchased by the company several weeks ago from the estate of the late Mr. H. R. Butcher.
The committee decided on a subdivisional roading scheme and tenders are being called immediately for carrying out the work. A' straight road of easy grades, seven miles in length, will be formed through the property. It is proposed to subdivide the property into 70 dairy and sheep farms. Mr. Shaw states that numerous inquiries had been received from all parts of the Dominion and considerable interest appeared to be evinced in the company's project.
