DEMAND FOR WOOL
PRICES RISE 5 PER CENT. COMPETITION IN SYDNEY. (Press Association). Sydney, May 27. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 10,240 bales were offered and 9550 bales were sold; also 6054 bales were sold privately. There was very keen and- widespread competition, and prices rose to 5 per cent, above the closing rates of last week, for all descriptions. Japanese, French, German and Bradford buyers were the principal operators, with support from local nulls. Greasy Merino made to 20d. The average price last week was £l3 15s lid bale, or 11.Id' per lb.
