VALEDICTORY

FAREWELL TO MR. N. DUNCKLEY. On Saturday evening a smoke social was held in the Railway Social Hall, a representative gathering of railwaymen and friends assembling to do honour to Mr. N. Dunckley, who is being transferred to Whangarei. Mr. W. Swift presided, and an enjoyable programme of music and vocal items was rendered. During the evening Mr. Swift, on behalf of railway and other friends, presented Mr. Dunckley with a handsome suitcase and mantel clock. Several speakers, representing business men, carriers, Railway Officers’ Institute, Amalgamated Society of Railwaymen, Engine-drivers and Cleaners’ Association, and Friendly Societies, also eulogised Mr. Dunckley, paying tribute to his many good qualities as a courteous and capable officer of the Railway Department, as a fellow worker, and for his interest in social and Lodge matters. Mr. Dunckley had been stationed in Te Kuiti for nine years and was popular as well as respected by all with whom he had come in contact, and good wishes would follow him from his many friends in this district.

MESDAMES DUNCKLEY AND PEPLOE. A social evening was tendered recently to Mrs. Peploe and Mrs. Dunckley in the Railway Social .Hall, prior to their departure for Ohakune and Whangarei respectively, a large number being present for the occasion. Musical items were rendered and dancing carried on until a late hour. Mr. McCarthy, on making the presentation to the departing guests, referred to their lofig association with social activities in connection with railway functions held in Te Kuiti and wished them, on behalf of the railway staff and their friends, the best of good wishes in their new homes. Mrs. Peploe and Mrs. Dunckley suitably responded.
