BREAKING AND ENTERING
YOUTH'S UNPLEASANT SURPRISE.
POLICE WAITING IN SHOP. To climb in through the window of a local shop, and be greeted with a "Good Morning" from a constable was the experience of a youth yesterday morninc. As a result he appeared before the Children's Court, the proceedings of which are held in chambers, later in the morning and was charged with breaking and entering. As a result of complaints of small sums of money being missed from Mr. Stout's confectionery shop, the members of the local police force for a week took turns in spending the night in the shop. Nothing was missed during that period, but the thefts continued soon after. Then the police resumed their vigil once more. On one occasion a constable spent the night in the shop, leaving at 7 a.m. Only an hour or two later it was found that something was missing—it must have been taken immediately after the police had left.
The patience of the police was re-wai-ded yesterday morning, when Constable Rose was on guard. Entry was being gained by means of a window, a damaged pane giving access to the catch. As they wished to clear up the mystery, the police left the pane loose when in occupation.
