Strong exception to a vote of censure passed by the Gisborne Unemployed Workers' Movement was expressed by Cr. J. H. Hall at the last meeting of the Gosborne Borough Council. Cr. Hall's remarks referred to the following resolution passed by the movement and conveyed with a covering letter to the council:— "That the committee condemns the action of the Gisborne Borough Council in not recommendine- to the Unemployment Board to place the 100 relief workers on sustenance that they are refusing to accept on No. 5 scheme because they are having to pay them for the essential work that they have been performing as requested by this organisation." Cr. Hall pointed out that it was the council's duty to try to get a fair return for the unemployed who were engaged by the council. There the council's duty ended, and he took storng exception to the vote of censure.
