VITAL STATISTICS

BIRTHS AND DEATHS INCREASE FIGURES FOR TE KUITI. A marked increase in the number of both births and deaths and a slight decrease in marriages are shown in the vital statistics as registered at the Te Kuiti Courthouse for the quarter ending September 30th as compared with the preceding quarter. The number of births registered was: European 40 and Maori 17, the figures for the quarter ending June being 27 and 16 respectively. Deaths registered totalled 17 as against 10. There were 14 European deaths registered as compared with 3 Maoris, 9 and 1 being the comparative figures. Certificates authorising marriage issued numbered 9, as against 11, a decx*ease resulting despite the fact that that on one day this quarter three marriage ceremonies were held.
