CLAIM FOR BOARD

FURTHER EVIDENCE TENDERED Evidence for the defendant was given on Tuesday in the case in which Rita Mary Owens claimed £ll for board from A. Sisarich. The defendant held that debts owing to him by plaintiff's husband had been, offset against the board, which the plaintiff denied. Wm. Jeffcott said he knew that Sisarich was in partnership with Owens. In March, after the two dissolved partnership he asked Owens why Sisarich was still staying in the house, and he said that he owed Sisarich money and the cheapest way to offset this was by board.

In answer to Mr. Morton, witness said he could not remember if Mrs. Owens was then present. He had not had a row with Owens—he could remember the_ words quite clearly because Owens was treating him rather shabbily. In answer to Mr. Morton he said Owens may have been selling liquor, but witness had nothing to do with that part of it. Witness was paid no money whatever for the two months he was in partnership with Owens. Soon after he heard the conversation there was a row and Sisarich was practically thrown out.

Mr. Morton: "Did you know that the police were practically called in to throw him out?"

Witness: I knew there was a row and that the Sergeant was called over —something to do with a little chap that was staying over there. Decision was reserved.
