Smith had been invited to dinner by his employer, a very rich oil magnate. After being shown through the gorgeous rooms, he sat down to a very meagre meal. “Well,” said his host when they had finished, “what do you think of my dining-room?” Smith looked at the richly gilded room and replied: “I should have preferred less gilding and more carving.”
“Waiter, have you forgotten me?” “Oh, no, sir, you are the stuffed calf’s head.”
