MATIERE CATTLE SALE.
RECORD YARDING. Messrs. Dalgety and C 0.., Ltd., report having held their annual cattle sale at the Matiere saleyards when a record yarding was penned to a large attendance of buyers who were present from all surrounding districts, including Raetihi, Stratford, Hawera, Te Kuiti, Waikato and Waitara. The total number yarded was 1144 cattle and the quality was exceptionally good. Bidding was strong throughout and practically a total clearance was made under the hammer. The top price of the sale was £7 8s for a pen of prime P.A. bullocks sold on account of Messrs. A. and F. Seccombe. A large number of good conditioned cows was penned and met good competition. A large yarding of potter bulls also raised keen bidding. Store cattle were keenly sought after and changed hands at prices in advance of vendors’ expectations. Our principal sales were as follows:—19 prime P.A. bullocks ac. A. and F. Seccombe, £7 8s; 18 prime P.A. bullocks ac. Fullerton-Smith Bros. £7 3s, and 12 at £7 Is; 19 at £7 2s; lighter prime P.A. bullocks ac. Hugh Brown £6 11s; ac. W. H. Fife £6 16s, and similar cattle ac. G. Woods made £6 12s and £6 15s; fat \ bullocks ac. estate W. B. Andrew made £6, and lighter sorts £5 15s. A pen of S.H. cross bullocks ac. C. J. Ryan £6 ss; a line of 25 3i-year S.H. bullocks ac. T. R. Etherington made £4 12s 6d; a pen of 18 good S. H. bullocks on ac. A. and F. Seccombe made £5 2s, and another pen S.H. and P.A. cross bullocks ac. Fullerton-Smith Bros made £6 9s. A line of 35 31-year P.A. steers ac. G. 11. Etherington changed, hands at £4
ss, and similar aged S.H. steers ac. R. W. Dench £4; a pen of S.H. bullocks ac. C. J. Ryan £5 10s. Cows and calves ac. H. Nelson made £4 12s; others £2 17s 6d to £3 10s; 21year P.A. steers ac. T. R. Etherington made £3 18s; and a line of exceptionally good 18-months P.A. steers ac. A. L. Ross made £4 Is. Prime fat heifers made up to £5 2s, and heavy fat cows £3 17s 6d to £4 12s. Potter bulls made up to £4 10s; others £2 10s to £4.
NEW ZEALAND MEAT.
The Bank of Australasia has received the following cable from its London office dated 4th April:—New Zealand lambs, demand good; with arrivals increasing this month slightly lower prices expected, but no material change anticipated. New Zealand mutton, larger supplies met with moderate demand; light-weights steady at present prices, heavyweights weaker; ewes_ have also downward tendency; anticipate demand likely to improve when prices decline a little more. New Zealand beef market steady, moderate demand, no material change expected.
