NURSES IN TROUSERS
WOMAN'S RESENTMENT OF SCOTCHMEN IN SKIRTS. A recent little episode at Leicester, where two hospital nurses were dismissed because they refused to give £n undertaking- not to wear flannel trousers off duty, might surely have teen treated as a domestic, if not an intimately personal, affair of our own, writes a London correspondent. But it has surprisingly become international, for certain French newspapers have seized upon it as another example of Albion's perfidy and as a typically unchivalrous attempt to interfere with the liberties of the female sex. The main argument used for our castigation is: Why should men in Scotland be allowed to wear skirts while nurses in Leicester are barred from wearing trousers ? There is, of coulrse, a perfectly good answer to this; unfortunately your correspondent cannot think of it at the moment.
