NOISELESS AEROPLANES
A NEW PLEASURE IN STORE. We are nearing the day of the silent aeroplane. One of the most revolutionary developments in the history of flying, with a vast influence in peace and war, will soon be an accomplished fact. The story was told to the Sunday Chronicle by Professor A. M. Low, the famous engineering and scientific expert. " Recent research has brought it very much nearer, and now models are being built, and one of the largest firms of aircraft constructors in the country is showing vital interest." 'Silent flying is far more sensational than it appears. Air sickness would be practically abolished by .aeroplanes without noise; long-distance flights would be twice as comfortable; air landing grounds would be noiseless., " Being accustomed to air travel does not mean that the noise of the m/achine has no effect upon one. It has, subconsciously, all the time," said Professor Low. " The noise of an aeroplane is. not primarily due to the engine exhaust, but to the propellers and to the vibration of the walls of the cabin."
