EDUCATION BY TRAVEL

TOUR OF SCHOOLBOYS. A party of secondary schoolboys will leave New Zealand for a. tour of Australia next Christmas holidays. The tour is being organised by Mr. T. A. Lappin of the King’s College staff, who organised tours in 1931 and 1932. The boys may be from any secondary school and three masters will accompany them. The party leaves Auckland by the Moncwai on December 30th and returns to Wellington by the Marama on January 29th. Visits will be made to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Newcastle and the Blue Mountains. At Newcastle the boys will inspect the steel works; on the mountains they will see the Jenolan Caves; at Canberra they will inspect Parliament House, Cotter River Dam, etc.; in Victoria they will visit Yallourn to see the brow'n coal deposits and the electricity works, and also. Lord Somers’ camp for schoolboys; in Sydney they will live at Manly for twelve days—surfing in the mornings and visiting industries, etc., in the afternoons.

A schoolboys’ tour of the British Isles is also being aranged. The boys are to leave in April a'nd travel via Suez, returning via Panama. The tour will last about five months. It will be open to boys from any secondary school. Details of this tour will be given later.
