SOUTH AFRICAN BUTTER

SERIOUS SHORTAGE. TO IMPORT 6000 CASES. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 11.50 a.m.) Capetown, October 18. In consequence of a shortage of butter the Government has agreed to the Control Board importing 6000 cases, one week’s normal requirements.

It is estimated that stocks will be reduced by the end of October to 400,0001b5. The position will be reviewed weekly. The imported butter will be sold wholesale at the port of landing at Is 6d and will be retailed at 2s 3d a lb.

The drought has broken in the cattle districts, but the shortage of butter will continue for some time.
