WAITANGURU
FOOTBALL DANCE. (Own Correspondent.) The local hall presented a gay appearance on Friday evening when the Mangaotaki footballers held their big dance in which the ladies of the block were guests, and were entertained right royally. Hall decorations were done out in the Club's colours, maroon and green streamers most artistically arranged and the same tone in balloons suspended from the ceiling. The musicians were Mr. Whitten (piano), Knapp (violin), and Brown (banjo), assisted by Miss Bilton, and M. White in the extras. The whole evening's musical programme went-with pbnty of "kick," appropriate to the function in hand. The M.C.'s, Captain E. Buckley and R. Walsh, carried out their duties with little or no "scrums." It was one of the most enjoyable functions we have had. The novelty dance competitions were much enjoyed, the winners being:— Spot waltz, H. Dew and L. Sewell; log cabin (statue), R. Nielsen and M. White; Monte Carlo, Mi-, and Mrs. Harwood. The wins were most popular. Supper arrangements were in the hands of the football committee and helpers. Messrs. Buckley and R. Walsh presented the prizes won. Mr. Verr-" president of the Club, gave a very interesting speech on the season's work in which he complimented the team on the position they held in the union as tying for place as runners-up for the Shield, etc., and advised all intending members to be present at the annual general meeting to enrol and elect their officers for the forthcoming season and to enter their team for competition, etc. Mr. Frederikson announced that the tennis dance which was to be held on the opening of the court day (23rd) is postponed indefinitely. Among those present were: Mesdames White, Higginson, Harwood, Buckley, Murray, Verry, Lowrie, Elston, Osborne, Bilton, and Miss Were. In evening frocks were: Misses Battley, blue satin (capel; G. Bilton, crepe de chine and sequened cane; O. Rennell, blue georgette, lace; M. Voyce, blue ninon; M. Murray, blue silk and lace; M. Verry, primrose silk; L. Sewell, ninon and georgette; F. Lowrie, blue taffeta; M. Dew, mauve silk, velvet coatee; E. Buckley, crepe de chine; E. Dew, pink silk, velvet cape; M. Brier, satin and net; O. Derecourt, maize satin* M. White, black crepe de chine; L. Harwood, floral voile; M. Buckley, satin; E. Bilton, pink silk (shoulder posy); M. White, floral voile; Mesdames Ronaldson, black silk crepe and lace; Pratt, cream, trimmed silver; Osborne, black crepe de chine lace. Personal. Much sympathy is extended to Mrs. Frederickson and family in the loss of her sister, Mrs. Paulger, of Raetihi, who was resident in Waitanguru for some years, and although in indifferent health was of a bright and happy disposition and made many friends in the block, who are' in deep sympathy with Mr. Paulger and family in their sad bereavement. Small Farm Scheme. ' The above scheme seems to be going ahead. Heads of affairs have been in making final arrangements re signing up, etc. We are to see one of the main camps erected shortly, and then work of a productive value will be got on with, and a general clean up, clearing, burning, stumping, fencing, ploughing, etc., in full swing and men settled with their wives and families soon we hope. The district can do with all it can get.
