THE FAR EAST
CRITICAL POSITION DEVELOPING. BETWEEN RUSSIA AND JAPAN. WARNING BY THE SOVIET. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.10 p.m.) London, October 16. The gravity of the Far East situation equals that in Europe. The Soviet alleges, according to the Times' Riga correspondent, that the Japanese are continuing to arrest responsible employees of the Chinese Eastern Railway. Unexampled disorder prevails as the result of rivalry between Soviet and Manchukuo officials, who are countermanding each others orders and appointments. The official organ of the Soviet Military Council declares that Russia is sufficiently strengthened to cope with her enemies and Japan is warned that she cannot avoid responsibility in the event of a conflict.
