PLANES AT £loo

BONUS OF £SO FOR BUYERS. Frenchmen will soon be able to buy aeroplanes for a little over £IOO. This has been made possible by a decree which M. Pierre Cot, the Air Minister, has just issued. His object is to do everything in his power to popularise private flying. For some time already, the French Air Ministry has been granting subsidies to civil pilots, but the money paid out was governed by the number of hours flown. This method of subsidy, while encouraging civil flying, did not achieve the object of reducing the price of aeroplanes, while, at the same time, it led to abuses. The new decree stipulates that the Ministry will grant a bonus of about £SO to all civilians buying aeroplanes of under 50 h.p. and costing not less than £l5O. At present no French aeroplane is constructed at this price, but the decree is bound to stimulate the demand and create the supply.
