REPAIRING WATER JACKET.

Recently we published a formula for an iron cement, with which cylinder water-jackets could be repaired. Another reader's method of performing this repair is to use soft solder. The crack is opened and cleaned with a file, and the metal round it- is heated carefully with a blowlamp. The solder, which should have a fairly high melting pointthat known as plumber's solder is best—is dipped in a flux of killed spirits and then applied to the crack. When a little has been filled, the solder should be tapped in gently with a blunt chisel. The process is repeated until the crack is filled. The surface should then be finished with fine glass paper.
