SPRING SHOW

FINE DISPLAY OF FLOWERS. SOME MERITORIOUS EXHIBITS. The Annual Flower Show and Sale of Work, under the auspices of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, was held in the Municipal Hall yesterday. There were several stalls with attractive display of goods which did good business, but the flowers constituted the greater attraction. The popularity of the show was amply demonstrated by the large number of entries submitted, and the resources of Te Kuiti as a flowering place, and the interest being taken in flower gardening, by the quality and variety of these exhibits. In practically all classes the number of exhibits for last year was exceeded, although in the sweet pea and pansy entries a falling off was apparent. This is no doubt due to the fact that the show was held earlier this year to allow roses a better chance. This class, along with the cut flowers, was probably the chief attraction. The classes for three and one varieties of roses in particular, received very full support, while many climbers were exhibited. Mrs. Davenport was successful in the points prize, and also exhibited the champion rose of the show. There were also very full entries in the cut flowers section, the "best collection," stocks, aquilegia, sweet William, and the "best flower not scheduled" classes being especially favoured. The variety of the exhibits has increased tremendously, Mrs. C. Johnston, who gained the points prize for best collection of cut flowers, exhibiting no less than 70 varieties. Mrs. Mackersey gained the points prize for the section. Some artistic work was done in the Decorated Section, more especially in the decorated fables competition. The judge must have had a very hard task here, but Mrs. Tate was successful with her meritorious exhibit. Buttonholes received the greatest support in the children's section, being closely followed" by the Victorian Posy competition. All work showed that both care and .skill and been used in preparing the exhibits, and a fine display was seen. The following are the results in the various sections: — Roses.
