CIVIC LEAGUE

SOCIAL AFTERNOON. There was a large attendance_ at the social afternoon held by the Civic League in the Parish Hall on Thursday. Vocal items were rendered by Miss Ban field, who sang "Little Grey Home in the West"; Miss Woods, who sang "Passing By"; and Miss L. Sheehan, who sang "Love is a Dream" and "Sally"; and pianoforte items by Misses Lincoln and Keighley were also much appreciated. Afternoon tea was followed by a very interesting demonstration of rug making by Mrs. J. Coutts. It was a revelation of the artistic effect that could be obtained from waste material, sugar bags, and woollen rags. Some of the rugs displayed had had hard wear for many years and were still in perfect order. There were also some beautiful wool rugs made from material bought for the purpose.
