ARIA DAIRY FACTORY
ANNUAL MEETING. APPEAL TO SUPPLIERS. The annual meeting of the Aria Dairy Company was held on Saturday last in the local hall. A good attendance of shareholders was present. Mr. J. Collins, chairman, presented his annual report and proposed the adoption of the balance sheet. In doing so he called for increased sunnort for the company, pointing out that all that was necessary to make the company a great success was increased supply. As it was, by careful control and management there had been a big decrease in all charges during the last 12 months. He invited suppliers in need of information to come to himself or the secretary and not to listen to unfounded rumours which might be floating round the district. He drew attention to the splendid improvement in the financial position of the company, which improvement is borne out by the opinion of the company's bankers. Given another 12 months' work like last year, the postion of the company would be equal to any in New Zealand. Mr. B. J. Adams then addressed suppliers at great length, but very much to the point. He pointed out that to run a business like a co-oper-ative company properly there must be confidence between shareholders and directors. He said he was sure the directors would place all their cards on the table, and he asked suppliers to be men enough to stand up and say the thinfs they said at the street corners, down the road, and at the saleyards. He also asked sunnliers to remember that, even if directors were not perfect, neither were suppliers. He thereupon seconded the adoption of the report and balance sheet. After discussion on various matters by Messrs. Adams, Schormann, Barnett and Riddle, this was carried unanimously. Several farmers stressed the great need of Maori land either being farmed by the natives or being taken 'over for settlement bv Europeans. The three retiring directors, Messrs. J. A. Thomson, H. F. Kirk, and M. V. Reeve-Smith, were reelected. Mr. A. W. Whyte was re-elected auditor to the company.
It was decided to Icommunicate with the Minister of Agriculture protesting against the granting of a grading license for butter and cheese to the proposed new proprietary cool stores to be erected near Auckland. It is understood that this is a subsidiary concern of the big meat trust, and was the thin end of the wedge in an attempt to put out of business the farmers' own concern, the Auckland Farmers' FreezingCompany, and so deal with dairy farmers as the proprietory meat works have dealt with the meat producers.
A vote of thanks to the chair and a vote of confidence in the directorate was carried by acclamation.
