TE KUITI HARRIERS' CLUB

LAST SATURDAY'S RUN. Last Saturday the local Harrier Club held its weekly run over a course from Henderson's shop in Rora Street, along Sheridan Street as far as the street would permit, then turning to the left. The course followed the electric light poles towards Mr. Christie's house. Before reaching the house, the course veered to the right, over the ridge and across the valley that was traversed a fortnight before with the Hamilton men, across Rangitoto Road, near the residence of Mr. Walker, Sm\, and down by the abattoirs. Here the runners divided into two packs for the run-in, one coming direct and the other crossing the river and running back to the starting point of the run via Waitete Road. Walker and C. M. Smith led in for one pack and Garvey and McNaught deadheatfor the other. The run was without much incident, save that at one stage Walker lost the sole off one shoe and had to complete the course with one bare foot (a tough lad, Willis). McKenzie instead of taking a fence in his stride left a portion of his strides in a fence. Smith and Garvey both actually cleared a fence instead of crawling through or under. At one gate, about five feet high.. McNaught gave a pretty exhibition of skill, vaulting it cleanly and scarcely touching the top rail with his hand. We should hear of him in the field events in the coming season. At a committee meeting held in Mr. C. M. Smith's shop on Thursday last it was unanimously decided to appoint Mr. Plummer, of Hamilton, as one of the club delegates to the Waikato sub-centre of the Auckland centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. The committee also decided to hold a two-mile handicap race on August 20, this race to be open to all amateurs in the district. The Maniapoto Rugby Union is to be approached with a view to holding the race during the interval of a football match. Trophy orders commensurate with entries received will be given as prizes. After the race a complimentary dinner will be given by the club captain and the club deputy-captain to all contestants and members of Lbs of the club.
