THE WINTER SHOW

SLIGHT FINANCIAL LOSS. THANKS TO WORKERS.

At a meeting of the executive of the Te Kuiti and District Winter Show Association held en Tuesday night, the secretary, Mr. A. W. Whyte, submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure covering the 1932 function, this showing a slight deficit. Members present, however, expressed themselves as well satisfied with the v financial result, as a good, deal of expenditure had been undertaken which would prove assets in the future operations of the Association. The prize money exceeded that of last year by £22, and this was largely responsible for the deficit. The revenue from space, including trade displays and side shows, also showed a considerable drop on previous years. Letters were received from Mes- ; dames Vercoe (Hamilton), Anderson; (Cambridge) and Mr. Lurman (Otoro-; hanga), stating that they would not; accept any expenses when coming to . Te Kuiti to judge for the Show. ? It was resolved on the motion of i Messrs. Holah and Douglas to forward a letter of appreciation to Mes-; - 1 dames Vercoe and Anderson and Mr. Lurman expressing appreciation of their generous action. It was also decided to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Cato, who, with Mr. Mowatt, was responsible for the organising of the series of entertainments during the show and to ask Mr. Cato to forward the thanks of the executive to other members of the "Mystery Minstrels" for their valuable assistance. Several members spoke in appreciation of the good work of Mrs. G. Elliott, and it was resolved to forward a letter of thanks to that lady. The chairman (Mr. S. Craig) took the opportunity of thanking the lady * members of the committee, Mesdames Gordon, McKenzie and Wright, for their practical help. He said that these three ladies had been a tower of strength to the Association, in this and previous functions held by the Association, and v hoped that the : executive would have their continued support. Reference was also made by members to the work of Mrs. Boles in the stall for the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, the amount realised by Mesdames Boles and Wright for the institution being nearly double that of last year. Future of the Association. A general discussion took place regarding the future activities of the Association. Mr. L. Sparks said that the District Courts, judging by their success this year, would become a a permanent feature of all future shows. He suggested that a conference of delegates from the various districts be held early next year to draw up conditions foY'the Winter Courts. After some discussion it was decided to call a conference on the lines indicated. Mr. Wright reported that at least two other districts in the King Country would be represented at the next Winter Show. Presentation to Mr. Douglas. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. S. Holah, on behalf of the, executive, presented an address to Mr. H. C. Douglas for his fine efforts' on behalf of the Association. The address set but the splendid work by Mr. Douglas on behalf of the Association and the King Country at the Auckland Winter Exhibition, and his unfailing enthusiasm in all cases of emergency. In asking Mr. Douglas to accept the tribute from the. executive Mr. Holah referred to the recipient's tact and universal good nature when carrying out his many duties in the interests of the Association, and expressed the hope that he would long continue his activities on behalf of the Association. Mr. Douglas suitably responded, detailing many ■ humorous episodes during his four years' connection with the Association.
