THAMES VALLEY. EASY WIN FOR THE FORMER. On a dry ground and before a large attendance of enthusiasts King Country tried conclusions with Thames Valley on Saturday, and came out victorious by 29 points to 6. The teams were:— King Country.—McLeod; Tilley, Gilbert. Clemett; Rata, Galbraith; Simpson; Morris, Eden, Margan, Fletcher, Bradshaw, Thomas Watson, Riddle. Thames . Valley. Laurence; Swann, Henry, Lysaght; McPherson, Jackson; Stewart; Mathers, H. Street. Williams, Clqrk, Laverick, Hume, Payne, Walford. King Country played with the sun. Galbraith opened but Laurence relieved to half-way. From the lineout the visitoi’s attacked, winning their way to Valley’s half. Simpson released to Rata, who tossed to Galbraith, who was collared by Jackson. Stewart cleared for Valley, and found the line to advantage. Rata was penalised for obstruction and Laurence found the goal with a beautiful kick from ten yards inside the half-way line. Thames Valley 3; King Country 0. Fast forward work characterised the succeeding play. Laverick infringed and Tilley took a shot from a difficult angle, and he equalled the scores—3 all.
The even play worked the spectators up to a high state of excitement. Simpson gave Laurence a further chance to increase the score, in which he failed. Fast forward play followed. Valley were penalised for a scrum infringement. Tilley’s shot at goal failed to ri§e. From a scrum Stewart launched tlje Valley backs in a good move, which terminated in Payne carrying on to score near the goal. Laurence failed to convert.
Thames Valley 6; King Country 3. A moment later Swan infringed and McLeod, taking the kick, scored. King Country 6; Thames Valley 6.
From the scrums Valley invariably secured and bright passing movements were repeatedly witnessed. The tables were now reversed and the visitors experienced a trying period in their own twenty-five. Gilbert marked and relieved the tension. For an infringement King Country were penalised. Laurence’s kick failed. Back at midfield the packs proceeded to make the pace fast. McPherson broke clean away, dribbling through the opposition, and McLeod forced. Valley gradually gained ground. in tackling Jackson, injured himself,' but resumed. From the ruck Gilbert cut through and on being grassed by Laurence tossed to Thomas, who scored. McLeod converted. King Country 11; Thames Valley 6. There was no alteration at halftime. The second half opened-with a promising invasion by Valley. From a line-out the visitors were penalised for offside work. Henry’s kick failed. Laurence later took a further free kick for Valley and missed narrowly. Henry missed a pass from Jackson and Thomas went clean away to score. McLeod converted. King Country 16, Thames Valley 6. A nice back-line move by the visitors saw Clemett take from Gilbert, who scored in the corner. McLeod’s kick missed. King Country 19; Thames Valley 6. Rata saved twice, but Galbraith cleared, until grassed by Lysaght. Clemett, however, secured and scored. McLeod converted. King Country 24, Thames Valley 6. The visitors set off again, Rata sprinting’ over half the field before tossing to Galbraith, who passed to Clemett, who scored again. McLeod converted. King Country 29; Thames Valley 6. The game terminated soon after. Mr. R. Walsh was referee.
