DOUBLE MURDER CHARGE

TRAGEDY NEAR EKETAHUNA. SON DETAINED IN CUSTODY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Eketahuna, Monday. At 2.30 this morning what is alleged to be a double murder occurred at Manganahoe', eight miles from here. John Corrigan, aged 64, and Ellen Corrigan, aged 55, his wife, were shot. Corrigan received a wound above the right eye and his wife one on the right side, the injuries in both cases proving fatal. Details are lacking at present, but the police have detained in custody John Corrigan, a son of deceased. The bodies of the deceased have been removed to Masterton.

SON BEFORE COURT. REMANDED TO WELLINGTON. Eketahuna, this day. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) At the Police Court this morning, before Messrs. Simpson and Greathead, J’S.P., John Corrigan was charged with the murder of his parents. Accused was remanded to appear at Wellington on April 5.

FORMAL INQUEST.

FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Masterton, this day. An inquest on the victims of the Manamahoe tragedy was held at Masterton this morning for the purposes of identification, and adjourned sine die. .
