HOUSE DESTROYED

FIRE AT COUNTY ENGINEER'S

RESIDENCE. PART OF CONTENTS SAVED. An Outbreak of fire occurred at 2.50 this afternoon at the residence of Mr. R. H. Browne, county engineer. The brigade was quickly on the scene, but found the fire had a good hold. The outbreak apparently started in the kitchen. The house was unoccupied when the alarm was given. The fire was raging at the rear of the house when the brigade arrived, and was rapidly spreading to the front of the building, which was eventually totally destroyed. Good work was performed by pupils of the Te Kuiti High School, who were successful in removing the contents of the two front rooms.

The house was the property of the Waitomo County Council. Both furniture and building were insured.
