A ROMANCE
PRINCE LENNART. GRANDSON TO KING GUSTAV TO MARRY. Prince Lennart, the 21-year-old grandson of King Gustav of Sweden, is to marry Miss Karin Nissvandt, the 19-year-old daughter of a wealthy Stockholm business man, next spring. The ceremony is expected to take place in May, but it is probable that it will not take place in Sweden.
When Prince Lennart announced his engagement to Miss Nissvandt early this year King Gustav refused to give his consent. Later, however, he relented in his opposition. When the opposition of his grandfather was announced Prince Lennart declared that nothing could make his alter his intention, even if it meant renouncing his rights to succession.
And when it was reported that the engagement was broken off in February he said: "We are going to be married in a year or so, no matter what happens. There will be no broken engagement." He also said at that time that he and his bride would make, their home abroad, probably in Germany. The Prince is the only son of Prince William, the Duke of Sudermanland, King Gustav's second son, and is in the direct line of succession.
He is at present following a course of studies in a Swedish agricultural college. He intends to take up farming. Miss Nissvandt is the youngest daughter of Mr. S. G. Nissvandt, the manager of an audit office in Stockholm.
The two first met in 1925, when Miss Nissvandt called on her sister, who was married to the Swedish poet, the late Count Birger Moerner. He was a neighbour of Prince Lennart's father, who has a summer castle at Stenhammer. After that the Prince and Miss Nissvandt spent many holidays together and were confirmed together in a country church. Miss Nissvandt is dark and beautiful. She is very fond of sports, a good horsewoman, and, like the Prince, is interested in farm work.
