A VISITOR'S IMPRESSIONS.
I Mr. P. Daley, a leading Queensland dairy farmer and a breeder of Milking Shorthorns, who recently visited New Zealand, writes this in an Australian publication of the dairy cattle he saw in New Zealand: "I was keenly interested in the breed, type, and dairy quality of the cows milked in the North Island. The outstanding features are the large number of farmers who favour the Jersey and Grade Jersey cows, and the splendidly shaped capacious udders and good teats of these cattle. Most of the dairy cows are dehorned —usually by a caustic preparation at birth. On 90 per cent, of the dairy herds in the Waikato and Taranaki provinces Jersey bulls are used and, judging by the appearance of their young stcck, they have been selected from splendid strains. Although one sees a number of aged cows of mixed breeding, grading up is being effected by the Jersey sire, which under these conditions is certainly a wise method."
