WAITOMO COUNTY

WORKS AND EXPENDITURE. DURING PAST YEAR. i The engineer, Mr. M. Fennell, in his annual report of the engineering department of the Waitomo County for the year ending March 31, 1931, submitted the following figures with regard to construction and expenditure: Construction Works. Distance'of surveys completed 24m. 60chs., length of roads formed 14m. 40chs., length of road metalled 14m. Expenditure construction works £13,046 14s Id, subsidies and grants received from Public Works Department £8123 4s. Maintenance Expenditure. Maintenance expenditure all roads £19,799 12s Id, maintenance expenditure on highways £14,402 0s lOd, contributed by Highway Board £10,296 14s 3d, provided by Council on highway, £4105 6s 7d. Total expenditure all works £32,848 6s 2d. Total collected from Government Departments £18,419 18s 3d. Materials handled on above works include: 40,800 cubic yards earthwork, 24,000 cubic yards of metal, 3500 lineal feet of pipe culverts. A schedule showing estimated cost from rates of maintenance on each separate road in each riding, the estimated quota from Highways Board for year ending March, 1932, and actual expenditure on same roads for year ending March, 1931.
