EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE

SESSION OPENS IN WELLINGTON. THE SALARIES’ CUT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Wellington, this day. Sixty-four remits appear on the order paper of the forty-eighth annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute, which opened at Wellington yesterday. This is only about half the number set down for consideration in previous years, but the proceedings are expected to last several days. Addresses of welcome were delivered by the Deputy-Mayor, Mr. M. F. Luckie, the Minister of Education, Hon. H. A. Atmore, and the Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong. Considerable interest was taken in the pronouncement of the Minister that the reduction in salaries was a temporary measure only.
