DEPUTY-LIBRARIAN APPOINTMENT.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —With all due respect to the successful applicant for the above position (whom I do not know, but I understand is the wife of a business man of this town and only a recent arrival), I wish to raise an emphatic protest against the action of those responsible for the appointment. I understand there were several applicants for the position, and I further know that some of them are very hard pressed for a means of livelihood, and am at a loss to know why those responsible have overlooked them, especially in these hard times when, be the salary ever so small, it would assist them. I understand that it is not necessary for anyone in the position to be a shining light. I certainly think the appointment, under the existing conditions, is uncalled for, and not in accordance with FAIR PLAY.
