RELIEF FOR FARMERS
CARRYING STATE LOANS.
REPLY FROM SIR APT RAN A NGATA
At the meeting of farmers held last Friday to consider the position that had arisen owing to the slump in values for primary products, a letter was forwarded to Sir Apirana Ngata, representing the Acting Prime Minister, Hon. J. G. Coates, and Mr. H. Holland, leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party, asking that the Government immediately arrange for the capitalisation of accrued and accruing interest and principal payments due to the Crown.
A reply has been received from Sir Apirana Ngata stating that it is not proposed to provide for the general capitalisation of such payments, but on receipt of an application for relief in this way from any individual lessee or mortgagor whose position has been seriously affected by the present depression, the Department concerned will give sympathetic consideration to the request.
