TRANS-TASMAN

TELEPHONE CONVERSATION.

FIRST FROM THIS DISTRICT

The first person in this district and among the first in New Zealand to speak to Australia per telephone, is Mr. H. T. Morton, who spoke from Te Kuiti to Sydney on Wednesday evening last. Mr. Morton spoke from his private residence to a business office in Sydney, and states that the connection was most satisfactory, the audibility from the other and apparently from this end also being equivalent to that of the ordinary land telephone. Connection arrangements were made by the Telegraph Department via Wellington, and Mr. Morton states that the service rendered in this direction was most assistful.
