NO LICENSING BILL
ENDEAVOUR TO MOVE PARLIAMENT. The report of the New Zealand Licensing Reform Association, presented at the annual meeting on Monday evening, remarks that no licensing legislation was undertaken by Parliament during this year’s sessions. “Early in the year,” says the report, “it was made clear by the Government that they were determined not to deal with licensing legislation during the session just past. Requests have been made by associated clubs that this organisation should take active steps immediately upon Mr. Forbqrs’ return to endeavour to induce the Government to bring down a licensing Bill next session.
“Although owing to the insuperable barrier created by the failure of the Parliamentary machinery to function on licensing matters, but little activity can be reported during the past year,” the report concludes, “the executive again wishes to thank members for their loyal support, and trusts that their patience will be rewarded by the opportunity in the near future to take active steps toward achieving those objects of licensing reform so greatly to be desired.”
