MARCONI’S YACHT AFIRE
DURE TO SHORT CIRCUIT. VALUABLE APPARATUS SAVED. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 8.45 a.m.) Rome, August 11. A fire occurred on Marconi’s yacht. The Elettra, in Civita Vecchia Harbour. The outbreak was due to a short circuit while Marconi was sending a wireless message to London. He superintended the fire operations and saved the yacht and much valuable apparatus, though the wireless equipment was destroyed. There was great excitement ashore when the vessel was seen to be enveloped in smoke.
