GOLF NOTES.

THE TE KUITI CLUB. IMPROVEMENTS TO LINKS. In view of the approaching opening of the season members will be interested to learn of the course improvements, particularly of the attention which has been given to the greens. The most urgent requirement of past years, “bigger and better greens” has been given effect to, and in a very short time members themselves will be in a position to appreciate the result. Each green has received a liberal top-dressing of earth and each has been resown with suitable grasses. Nos. 1,2 and 3 holes are practically the same. The old No. 4 has been cut out, thus relieving the congestion always evident at this point. The new hole is “dog-leg” played from a tee near the third hole, and the green is just to the right of the old crossing. The fifth is a nice little one-shot hole played from a hillock on the old crossing fairway on to the top of the hill near the ladies’ sixth tee. This hole opens the door wide to prospective members of the “hole-in-one” club and the committee (not to mention the writer) will be disappointed if ten members do not rise to the occasion. The sixth hole is unaltered, but the “crater” is the crater no longer, having been shifted to the slope to the right, giving additional length and a drier green. The eighth has been shifted on a few yards, but is otherwise, the same. The last green has been shifted across the swamp between the club house and the fence. Coming over the rise this is a very inviting looking green, but results may prove that both the club house and swamp (which, by the way, gives quite good “lies”) will claim many well-intended approaches. Whilst there is yet a good deal of work to be done before the official opening of the season, it is proposed to throw the links open for play during the coming week-end. Players, however, are asked to use the greens as little, as possible. The holes will not be in position and the greens, on account of the young grass, will not be really fit for play for possibly a fortnight. The official opening has been tentatively fixed for the 20th April. Members are. cordially invited to the opening of the season at the Otorohanga links on the 6th April.
