THE YEAR 1929.
The" people of this Dominion have much to be thankful for when reviewing the year 1928. Even though there has been a large amount of unemployment throughout the country, the position in this connection has not been so bad as in other countries. With a good season for the primary producers this year, and a more prolific one promised before the end of next year, the outlook is more promising than it has been for many years. Prices for all our exports of products are good, while the quantity is steadily mounting up. Large sums of money have been spent in top-dressing, and the farmers are now reaping the benefit of this by increased returns and an improvement in the quality of their products. In the dairy industry the same results have been obtained by herd-testing and culling. In no district is this improvement more noticeable than in the King Country. The quality of our primary products is improving every year, while the quantity is increasing, and there is every indication that this district is well on the road to progress and prosperity. We have enormous tracts of land still awaiting development, and now that a promise has been made to place the Maori lands on a sound footing, there should be a demand for land in the King Country. The prospects for 1929 are full of promise. There is still hard work ahead for those who wish to prosper, for it is individual effort in addition to team work that will count in making this district one of the greatest producing areas in the North Island. The opportunities are here, and the outlook gives every cause for optimism, and we can with confidence wish our readers in all parts of the district A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.
