Mrs (Dr.) de Castro has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mr. J. S. Robertson, official assignee, was in Te Kuiti yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Stranger and family have left for Te Maika, where they are spending the holidays. A Press Association message from Palmerston North announces the death of Miss J. F. W. Hodges, principal of the Girls' High School in that town. Mr J. W. Hamlin, who was for several years accountant in the local branch of the Bank of "New Zealand, and is now manager of the Waitara branch, accompanied by Mrs Hamlin, was in Te Kuiti yesterday visiting old friends. Mr and Mrs Hamlin are on a motoring tour 'through the Auckland province. Friends of Mr and Mrs T. C. List, of "Maranui," New Plymouth, will regret to hear of the death of their only son, T. R. List, who met with a shooting accident on Mount Ejgmont last Saturday week. Up to Friday last

Opportunity was taken at the home of the Mayoiess, Mrs Broadfoot, yesterday afternoon on the occasion of the entertaining of the Dr. Barnardo Young Helpers'. League, of presenting Sister Swayne, of the Te Kuiti Hospital, who is shortly relinquishing her duties here, with a bouquet of flowers. The token, which was handed over by Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., was offered as a mark of esteem in which Sister Swayne is held by the ladies of the town. Eulogistic reference to the manner in which the departing lady had carried out her duties as sister-in-in-charge at the local hospital, and congratulatory reference upon her promotion was expressed by Mr Broadfoot on behalf of the town, and also by Mr A>. Blackman on behalf of the Waikato Hospital Board.
