CAR PLUNGES OVER BANK.
PERFORMS SEVERAL SOMERSAULTS. MISHAP ON TE KUITI-OTORO-HANGA ROAD. A five-seater closed-in Oldsmobile car, containing Dr. Lowe ancl a Mr I/. Whittaker, of Auckland, driven by the former, and which was making the trip from Auckland to Wellington, went over a bank near Rothery’s bend on the Otorohauga-Te Kuiti road on Sunday. Neither of the occupants was injured, though Mr Whittaker received a cevere shaking. The car completely somersaulted two or three times, and but for the fact of the substantial nature of the over-structure, more serious consequences must have resulted for both men. The car was badly damaged as the result of its career down the bank, the body being tilted on the chassis. All four mudguards were buckled and the wind screen and glass work smashed. The car, which was put out of commission, had to be towed into Te Kuiti, Dr. Lowe and Mr Whittaker continuing their journey by train on Sunday night. Mr. L. Whittaker is a prominent figure in musical circles in Auckland.
