RESOURCEFUL ACTRESS.

MANIAC WHO CLIPPED HER HAIR.

Strange are the marvels of insurance, says an American exchange. Not long ago Mile. Mimi Gyenes, one of Hungary's operatic stars and a noted beauty of Budapest, suffered a distressing experience while attending a theatre performance.

A woman sitting behind her in the stall of the theatre suddenly reached forward and before Mile. Gyenes or anybody with her could do anything to stop her, she had clipped the goi*geous hair of the opera singer. The woman, generally believed to have been a' maniac, made her escape.

Mile. Gyenes was disconsolate. A part of her great beauty was her hair. Fortunately, the unknown woman had left a few inches of the tresses. A hairdresser did some expert work and effected a shingle which, when viewed by Mimi in the glass, stopped her tears at once.

It was an improvement. It made Mimi look more beautiful than ever. The hairdresser, in honour of the event, named it the Mimi shingle, and scores of women in Budapest, had their hair cut to the same length, so they could get Mimi shingles. Then the thought occurred to Mimi —suppose this maniac who had cut her hair the first time should take a notion to do it again. Horrors! She went to an insurance company and and insured her new shingle for 5000 dollars.

If anybody clips her hair again she will collect that amount and probably get a boyish bob. 'Resourceful people, whose Hungarians.
