RUSSIAN GRAND DUCHESS. AN ARREST EFFECTED. A woman calling herself Alexandra Romanova, and claiming to he a Rus sian Grand Duchess, who was arrested at Budapest, lias been proved by the Hungarian police to he the widow ol a Russian doctor named Ivietsche j vitscli. The widow, who was both clever and beautiful, was convicted in 1919 of espionage against Austria, and sentenced to six months’ imprison ment. Afterwards she went to Vienna, where she was imprisoned for theft. After her release she served the Corrv munist Government which was then in power in Budapest, doing duty as a hospital inursej, gild collecting war prisoners’ confidences. She was able to do this, as she speaks nine languages fluently. Since then she had organised an espionage service at Vienna for the Bolsheviks and it is believed that her reports caused the Soviet’s Minister’s recall recently. She has made several journeys to Moscow with a Soviet secret service agent, Balmovski.
