The newspaper Sketch states that after organising a pilgrimage of the “Contemptibles” to* Mons. last month, Captain J. P. Danny, chairman of the Contemptibles Association, reveals that he had to mortgage bis house to meet a £464 deficit on the pilgrimage. - The ironical fact is that Captain k Danny himself, ' who was thrice \ wounded, was unable at the last minute, owing to a war disability, to accompany his comrades to Mens. Captain Danny states that on the strength of a woman’s telephoned offer to subscribe £IOOO for the trip, which was not fulfilled, he issued 200 invitations, and despite newspaper appeals the public subscribed only £192.
