(Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.25 a.in.) Peking, Oct. 25. The leaders in the Yang-tsze Kiang Valley war are still toying with peace. Sun Chuang Fang has notified Chiang Kaishek. the Red commander, that he is agreeable to suspend hostilities, provided the Reds withdraw to the Hankow and evacuate his domain, consisting of the five south-east provinces of Anwhei, Fukien, Iviangsi, Chekiang, and Kiangsu. Since Che Kiang’s unsuccesslul revolt, Sun’s prestige has been considerably enhanced, and the Reels have adopted a more cautious attitude.
The officials of several Labour unions in the territory just outside the Shanghai foreign settlements fled from their offices, which have been closed. As a result of a declaration of special martial law, which is stricter than the ordinary Chinese martial law, the French authorities erected barbed wire barricades in thoroughfares leading' to Chinese territory.
