VALEDICTORY.
At the conclusion of the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday evening, opportunity was taken by members to bid farewell to Mr J. W. Hamlin, who is leaving Te Kuiti to take over the managership of the Bank of New Zealand at Waitara.
The Chairman (Mr Broadfoot) said that as treasurer of the Chamber, Mr Hamlin had been one of the hardest workers. The fact that the Chamber was a sound financial institution was mainly due to Mr Hamlin's good work. Mr Hamlin was always willing to take part in any movement which meant the good of the town, and while all regretted his departure, both himself and Mrs Hamlin carried with them the good wishes of the . people Te Kuiti. The speaker then asked Mr Hamlin to accept ;i silver teapot as a small token of appreciation of the work he had done on behalf of the Chamber.
Mr Broadfoot\s remarks were followed by similar eulogistic references to Mr Hamlin's untiring efforts for the Chamber by Messrs Craig, Hitchcock, Mostyn Jones and Morton. Mr Hamlin, in replying, stated that he was pleased that he had been of some use to the Chamber. His associations with the members had been most pleasant, and although he had the task of collecting the subscriptions, his reception by members while carrying out this duty had been very good.
