REGISTERING BOOKMAKERS.
PROPOSAL THROWN OUT. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.10 p.m.) London, April 21. In the House of Commons Mr Dixey (Conservative member for Penrith) sought leave to introduce a Bill legalising betting and registering all bookmakers in the interests of cleaner conditions of racing. After the briefest discussion, leave was refused, amidst cheers, by 126 votes to 99.
