RUGBY CONTROL.
MANIAPOTO SUB-UNION.
PREPARATIONS FOR SEASON
The first meeting of the management committee of the Maniapoto Rugby Sub-Union this season was held on Saturday evening. There were present Messrs H. Rothery, E. Tapp, B. Brewer, G. Elliott, Nealy, Davey. O'Donnell, Ranger, Gray, S. Harty, Reid and Carpenter, Mr' Tapp was elected chairman of the committee.
New applications were received from Tiroa and Huia clubs. Tiroa's colours were registered as maroon with a yellow band. A letter was received from the Otorohanga club advising ihat it did not intend to enter a team with the sub-union this year. It was reported thai Otorohanga players were playing in the Waipa Union's territory.
It was decided that the union express regret at the club's seccession. It was also decided to write to the Waipa sub-union re prayers from Maniapoto's territory playing in that union, and to point out to the Otorohanga players the risks they would run if they persisted in playing under Waipa. It was decided to commence the championship competitions upon May Ist.
It was resolved that Aria, Huia, Pio Pio and the Power Board play their matches with Tiroa and Mmgapeehi during the season at Te Kuiti at 3 p.m. Messrs Tapp. Elliott, Brewer and city were appointed a committee to make the draw for the season and allott grounds. Messrs Brewer, Elliott and Stewart were appointed to go into the matter of additional grounds. It was decided that the committee meet on Saturdays fortnightly. Messrs Tapp and Elliott were appointed the sub-union's representatives on the King Country Union committee.
Regarding the postponement of matches, it was decided that none be made unless play is absolutely impossible.
The secretary was instructed to advise all clubs of the players disqualified for not having paid expenses in connection with their visit to Kohimarama last year.
Messrs Tapp and Brewer were appointed selectors, one other selector to be appointed. It was decided to open the season on April 24th with an open seven-a-side tournament. Mr B. Brewer advised that he would present seven caps for the winning teams. Mr. S. Harty suggested for the consideration of members, that the Pukeweka Shield be played for in knock-out competition by the four leading teams at the end of the competitions.
