A labourer’s wife in Copenhagen, named Parikkala, in a fit of religious mania, prophesied that the end of the world was immediately pending. She beheaded her 18-months-old daughter with an axe, and then stabbed herself three times. .

Reports that the end of the world was coming at 9 p.m. on February 6 gained wide currency in the Baltic countries. A number of people in Latvia arranged tol sleep in graves that night instead of their beds, and the gravediggers made small fortunes.
