THE REST ROOM.
The ladies who are responsible for the movement to establish a resit room for women in the town are to be congratulated for their efforts in this direction. They set out to raise a certain sum, having the assurance that, with the subsidy granted by the Borough Council, they would be enabled to provide a long-felt want in the town—one that might be termed
a necessity. It has been proved, however, that a further amount is required if a building is to be erected that will be in keeping with the town —and one that will servo its purpose for many years to come. The Borough Council is not in a position to grant further financial assistance, and it is now a matter for the public to decide whether it will make the further necessary response to such a worthy object.
This is a matter of interest to residents in both town and country. For the business men of the town, a rest room will help to popularise Te Kuiti as a shopping centre by providing a facility which is to be found in most towns of this size. Mothers and womenfolk generally, both in town and country, are very often in distress owing to not having any place to rest between their shopping or when waiting for their train or bus. It is to be remembered that Te Kuiti is dependent on the country districts for its existence, and it is therefore our bouuden duty to study their interests in every possible way. The public of To Kuiti has always been ready to help in any undertaking that .means progress, as well as any that is in the interests of social welfare. Those itwo objectives are both embodied in the scheme of the Rest Room—a scheme that we feel sure will have the further practical approbation of residents in both town and district.
